Random Events

If you’ve ever been wandering around in Teyvat and had a temporary quest marker and objective crop up on your minimap not far from your current location, congrats – you’ve stumbled across a ‘Random Event’ – a somewhat randomly-generated mini-quest that offers a small reward upon completion.

Random Events, however, actually have at least two spots in the game (as of Patch 1.4) where they predictably spawn at with a 100% spawn rate. Understanding these spawn mechanisms allows players to “farm” Random Events up to 10 times per day to easily get access to the rewards they offer.

These rewards are:

  • Companionship EXP (10/Event in Liyue, 15/Event in Mondstadt)
  • Mora (1055 – 1870, with higher averages in Mondstadt)
  • Fine Enhancement Ore (0 – 2)
  • Mystic Enhancement Ore (0- 2)
  • Any item drops or Mora that the enemies you face in these Random Events possess.

While the Mora and items from these events are a nice little pick-me-up, the most valuable reward offered here is the ability to get up to an extra 150 Companionship EXP for your party. For those that are committed to boosting their characters’ Friendship Levels up to 10 as readily as they can, this mechanic is a welcome way to accelerate this process – especially at lower Adventure Ranks when Companionship EXP is less readily available than it is at higher Adventure Ranks.

In this guide, we’ll walk through the predictable spawn locations for Random Events in Mondstadt and Liyue, and the differences between these regions for the events.

Core Mechanics

Unless you’re extremely pressed for time in terms of what you can complete in Genshin Impact on a daily basis, Mondstadt offers a 50% higher Random Event reward payout than Liyue, and only takes an extra minute and a half to run in a full set of 10 events compared to Liyue. (at least, in our timed run tests between both)

The basic principle, however, is the same between both regions:

  1. Go to the designated spot for the spawn,
  2. Quit out of your active game session, taking you back to the Main Menu.
  3. Load your active game session once again. (this resets the timer algorithm for the spawns)
  4. If you’re not immediately greeted by the Random Event notification once you’re back in-game, you may need to wait for up to 45 seconds for it to initiate.

The Mondstadt area on rare occasion will spawn the Random Event as it should, but it occurs just slightly outside of the detection radius for players to get the event notification – when this happens, 99% of the time, it’s for a mob of slimes or Hilichurls that appears directly south of the designated spot. They’ll be within vision from the designated spot, but will be just outside of the detection radius for the event notification – please take this into consideration if you’ve waited over 45 seconds and haven’t received an active notification. An example is pictured below:

The designated spot for Mondstadt is a little ways north of Wolfendom, either on or around a small cobblestone ruin. The author’s general practice is to climb up on top of the ruin for the spawn setup to provide vision of the surrounding area as well as a gliding position.

The designated spot for Liyue is a short distance west of the Wangshu Inn, either on or around an outcrop of small rocks with a larger rock at the center. The author’s general practice is to stand on the larger rock.
