Strange Tooth

Introduction

Many of us remember the Strange Tooth search and quests from the Dragonspine region’s questline, as they were the material prerequisites for the newly-introduced (at the time) Dragon-class prototype weapons.

Since the additional of the Dragon-class weapons, it can be helpful for players to keep a small reserve of Strange Teeth in their inventory for the opportunities where they’ll pull a weapon prototype, alongside the need or desire to build it into one of the Dragon-class weapons.

In this guide, we’ll go through the four different spawn locations of the Strange Teeth with the assumption that you’ve already completed the initial run of them in the core Dragonspine questline, and are revisiting the search later now that you’re looking to further build or refine the weapons you already have.

Core Mechanics

The Strange Teeth respawn in the same relative areas that you originally harvested them in as part of the storyline, with a few meters of discrepancy on rare occasion. They’ll always be within a few meters of a larger, tooth-shaped structure that may be a dragon rib; we aren’t sure.

The respawn timer for these teeth is 48 hours (not to be confused with two in-game day cycles).

Since you’ll need eight teeth total to build one of the Dragon-class prototype weapons, our recommendation is that you keep “inventory” on at least four of them passively by default, and then farm the additional four once you have your prototype to work with so that you’re not stuck waiting up to three days to get your materials. Afterward, you can work on replenishing your inventory of them.

Respawn locations are as follows:

1. North Dragonspine

This tooth is on the island in the middle of the frozen river, and is guarded by a Hydro Abyss Mage, and a Cryo Abyss Mage.

You don’t have to fight these enemies to spawn the tooth; you can run in, grab it, and get out if you so choose.

2. Wyrmrest Valley

You can find your second tooth inside the warm cave at the south end of the Wyrmrest Valley, next to the Dragon Heart.

We’ve found that it sometimes appears at varying positions inside this cave; if you don’t see it immediately as you walk in, take a brief look around further inside.

3. West of Wyrmrest Valley

Our third tooth is in the open area by the lake just to the west of the Wyrmrest Valley cave we were just in, guarded by at least one Fatui (depending on who you pull aggro on, as other Fatui patrol this area, too).

As with the first tooth, you don’t need to defeat the enemies to get the tooth – you can get in, grab it, and leave.

4. Southeastern Coast

The final tooth is on the shoreline just to the west of the Teleport point on the southeastern side of Dragonspine.

This one also has a tendency to shift around a little bit in its spawn position, although it will always be in the relative vicinity of the dragon rib(?) sticking up out of the ground in this area.

Infusion

As with the original storyline quest, you’ll need to infuse the teeth using the Dragon Heart in the cave buried in the south of Wyrmrest Valley.

Thankfully, you won’t need to fight any Fatui this time around to get this done.
